In 1995 I traveled to Mysore, India to study Āṣṭāṅga Yoga with Pattabhi Jois at his Āṣṭāṅga Yoga Nilāyam. The Yoga he taught in this small śālā was unlike any Yoga I had encountered over my previous ten years of study. Nearly every instruction and technique he shared was supported by Sanskrit sūtras, ślokas or verses. The way he instructed the āsana portion of practice was unlike the āsanas as I had learned them in other schools. The āsanas were one component of a system called vinyāsa along with a technique called triṣṭhānam. He had learned this striking and seemingly original system from his Guru Krishnamacharya. Before class began he lit lamps and offered flowers, incense, and prayers to a photo his Guru and to photos of his parents. When he spoke of his Guru, he often had tears in his eyes.
Every afternoon a small group gathered in his front room for conversation. It was here, for the first time, that I heard, learned, the connection between The Yoga Sūtras and the practice of Yoga. He taught that we must take Yoga practice along with wisdom studies to reach God. I am grateful to Śri K. Pattabhi Jois for encouraging and championing me to study Sanskrit and to practice daily chanting.
I hope you will strongly consider studying and chanting The Yoga Sutras. I love teaching these Zoom classes. We have a warm, dedicated, and courageous group of students from many places and backgrounds. This study is not only for teachers.
Please join my new Yoga Sutra study and chanting courses on Zoom beginning September 8 and September 10. These 5-Session courses are inspiring, uplifting, and impactful. I believe all the students would say that meeting and chanting all together has profoundly changed them. Transformation! That is what we seek. Chanting The Samadhi Pada (Chapter 1)
● The 5-week session begins on Tuesday, September 8, at 11 am CST.*
Chanting the Vibhuti Pada (Chapter 3)
● The 5-week session begins on Thursday, September 10, at 11 am CST.* Registration info in my bio.

I first visited @anandaashram 33 years ago to celebrate @sharongannon July 4th birthday where we were blessed with excellent satsang and the darshan of Swami Brahmananda Saraswati. I will not wait 33 years to visit next. Such a magical, truly transcendental place. I was happy to be included in the World Sanskrit Day event to support Dr. Jayashree’s participation in sharing her deep experiences of Śruti Paramparā. Lovely Anne learned the Yoga Sutra through the call-and-response audio recordings of Jayashree and I. What a pleasure to meet and chant together.
Jayashree has tasked me with teaching what she has taught me. New Sutra classes are starting on ZOOM September 8 and 10. 2026. Details in my BIO.

SOLD OUT🙏🏽Inside Ashtanga Yoga: The outer body and the inner realm
From the seen to the unseen — the subtle body, sūkṣma śarīra, is the landscape of Yoga transformation. Day after day, in active practice, the practitioner cultivates a disciplined inner eye, to observe and refine breath, bandhas, focus and stability to purify the nādis, the nervous system. The nervous system is the realm of sattva and illumination. Pattabhi Jois prioritized the refinement of the nādis, the command of the senses, and healing of the body with the ancient tools of ujjayi, bandhas, trataka, āsana, and vinyāsa.
The gift of Yoga, of this Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, is the radical belief that each practitioner has the key to moṣka, to mukti, here and now. This path to mokṣa is Inside Ashtanga Yoga: in the mapping and transformation of the subtle body.

I met Dr. Jayashree 🙏🏻 in Mysore in 1998. I sat with her daily, for hours over many months, over many visits, over many decades and learned to chant 🕉️ The Yoga Sutras as well as many other verses, ślokas, Bhagavād Gita. Ramayana, śanti mantras 💎 and so much more. She taught me to chant in the traditional manner, in call-and-response. Śruti paramparā. We chanted without books, and ultimately we still do today. I love teaching The Sūtras, Sūtra chanting and insights from the Sūtras that guide, inspire and enhance our lives as yoga practitioners and sādakhas. Meet me and join a wonderful group of chanters on ZOOM. New courses begin March 10 and March 12, 2026 for 6-weeks. The link for more information and registration is in my bio 👆🏻
